About This Service

Grief is not something to get over. It is something to move through.

Grief is one of the most disorienting human experiences — and one of the most misunderstood. There is no timeline, no right way to do it, and no finish line. The five-stage model most people learned is an oversimplification that leaves many grieving people feeling like they are doing it wrong.

You are not doing it wrong. Grief is the cost of love, and it is different for everyone. Our therapists create space for your grief to be what it actually is — not what it is supposed to look like.

Loss takes many forms: death of a loved one, loss of a relationship, loss of identity, loss of health, military loss, miscarriage, the grief of a life that did not turn out as planned. All of it counts. All of it is worth bringing here.

Frequently Asked

Quick answers.

How do I know if I need grief counseling versus just time to process?
Grief is not a problem to solve — it is something to move through. But if grief is interfering with sleep, work, relationships, or has become persistent depression months later, that is when professional support is useful. There is no required threshold. Coming early is not jumping the gun; it is often what keeps grief from becoming complicated.
Do you only work with grief from death, or other kinds of loss too?
All loss counts. We work with grief from death (including military loss), divorce, miscarriage, identity loss after retirement or military transition, the loss of a relationship through estrangement, and the diffuse grief of a life that did not turn out the way you expected.
Will you tell me grief comes in five stages?
No. The five-stage model is a popular oversimplification of work originally describing dying patients, not those grieving them. Grief is not linear, does not have stages everyone goes through, and does not have a finish line. We treat it as the cost of love, and we meet you where you are.
How long does grief counseling typically last?
There is no standard timeline. Some clients work intensively for a few months around an acute loss; others work over a longer arc as new dimensions of the loss emerge over time. We are guided by what you need, not a session count.
